Partner Daniel Young Appointed to State Ethics Panel
Governor Dannel Malloy has appointed partner Daniel Young to the State of Connecticut’s Citizen’s Ethics Advisory Board. The Board is the governing body of the State of Connecticut Office of State Ethics, and it has statutory authority to administer the State of Connecticut’s Code of Ethics for Public Officials and Code of Ethics for Lobbyists. Members of the Board are appointed by the Governor or the legislative leaders of the State of Connecticut. Young’s appointment is Governor Malloy’s first appointment to the Board. Read Full Article

Firm Prevails Against Municipality in Property Tax Appeal
Attorney Adam Blank recently obtained a favorable verdict for a Rowayton homeowner of her property taxes. In its recent revaluation, the City of Norwalk had assessed the taxpayer’s Rowayton cottage a fair market value of $3,000,000. Attorney Blank filed an appeal for the homeowner against the City arguing that the property was worth approximately $2,000,000. The City of Norwalk refused to make any settlement offers and the case was tried to Judge Aaronson of the Tax Court. Judge Aaronson agreed with the homeowner, finding the property worth $2,163,000. The decision will result in a savings of over $50,000 in taxes for the homeowner. Read Full Article

Partner Bill Davoren recently secured a $500,000.00 settlement of a case in which the defendant's automobile struck a pedestrian as she was attempting to cross the street at a cross walk. The accident caused the pedestrian substantial permanent injuries to her head, arm, and both legs. William Davoren Announces $320,000 Settlement of Traffic Sign Case
Partner Bill Davoren recently secured a $320,000.00 settlement of a hotly contested personal injury case arising out of an incident in which the firm's client, a pedestrian, was struck by an eight pound temporary traffic control sign. The firm alleged that the general contractor's sign was left unsecured, unattended and unprotected from wind, automobiles or vandalism. Defendant contested ownership of the sign and the extent of plaintiff's injuries.
