The firm has an extensive employment law practice which is unique in that we routinely represent both employees and employers in a wide variety of matters. We believe that our active representation of both employees and employers enables us to understand fully the legal and practical issues which accompany employment disputes - to the benefit of both types of client.
Employee Representation

Members of our firm regularly represent employees with respect to the negotiation and drafting of employment agreements, including those dealing with executive compensation, severance, and confidentiality and noncompetition issues. We also litigate matters for employees in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative agencies. Our experience extends to virtually all types of employment-related claims, including those dealing with wrongful discharge, discrimination, breach of express and implied contract, trade secret and restrictive covenants, and sexual harassment.
Employer Representation

Attorneys in our employment law practice group defend employers against all types of employment related claims, including alleged violations of the Connecticut and federal anti-discrimination statutes, alleged violations of wage and hour laws, alleged violations of express and implied contracts, and claims alleging wrongful discharge. We also prosecute claims for employers when employees violate duties under non-competition or non-disclosure agreements, or under applicable statutes, such as the Uniform Trade Secrets Act. In addition to traditional employment litigation, our lawyers have a wealth of experience in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, such as arbitration and mediation.
While we have experienced and talented litigators to prosecute and defend employment claims, we understand that litigation should be a last resort. Accordingly, our employment attorneys regularly counsel employers as to how to avoid problems and minimize risks with respect to such issues as employee discipline, harassment, drug testing, trade secrets, and workplace violence. We also educate clients as to the complex panoply of laws and regulations which govern their treatment of employees. Finally, we have expertise in the drafting of employee handbooks and work rules and we frequently review and update those types of documents for employers.
