Mr. Margolis is a civil litigator, law professor and civil rights advocate who concentrates his practice in civil and criminal litigation, constitutional law, and civil rights law. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina (B.S. 1947, Phi Beta Kappa), Harvard University (Ph.D. 1951), and Yale Law School (J.D. 1956). He joined our firm in 1960. Mr. Margolis serves as a Special Master for the United States District Court and as a Connecticut Superior Court Trial Referee. From 1989 to 1995, he served as chairperson of the Connecticut Civil Liberties Union, having been a member of its governing board for more than 30 years. Mr. Margolis also chaired the Connecticut Bar Association Section on Human Rights and Responsibilities from 1969 to 1974, and was a member of the Federal Judiciary Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association. He has long been an editor of the Connecticut Bar Journal, and served as Editor-in-Chief from 1980 to 1983. Mr. Margolis has published numerous articles concerning human rights issues and criminal law, and he is an adjunct professor of Civil Rights and First Amendment law at Quinnipiac College School of Law. He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in American Education. He is a James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation and a former member of the Yale University Law School Executive Committee.
