Ms. Bicks is a litigator who practices in the area of domestic relations, including divorce, child custody and the representation of minor children as attorney or guardian ad litem (GAL). With a background in mediation and alternative dispute resolution as well as traditional litigation, Ms. Bicks offers clients cost effective, sophisticated representation tailored to individuals’ and families’ needs.
Ms. Bicks received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations (B.S. 1985) and her law degree from New York University School of Law (J.D., 1988), where she was an Editor of the Moot Court Board. Ms. Bicks served as a federal law clerk in the Central District of California for the Hon. Robert J. Kelleher and thereafter worked at Dewey Ballantine in New York, where she handled complex commercial litigation in a variety of areas including antitrust, securities fraud, ERISA and RICO. Ms. Bicks also represented victims of domestic violence and civil rights abuses. In 1995, she joined the law office of Adria S. Hillman to focus her practice exclusively on domestic relations. After moving with her family to Connecticut, Ms. Bicks began working as an advocate for children who had been abused or neglected, running a program in the Stamford Court for volunteer GALs. In 2009, when that program was threatened by state budget cuts, Ms. Bicks was authorized by the Connecticut Judicial Branch to establish a nonprofit to continue the work, and served as Founder and Executive Director of the new organization, Child Advocates of Connecticut. Through this work, Ms. Bicks has developed strong relationships with Child Welfare professionals throughout the State, including at the Department of Children and Families.
Ms. Bicks is a State Certified AMC/GAL and is a member of the Connecticut and New York bars. Her professional affiliations include membership in the Connecticut and Fairfield County Bar Associations and participation in the family law and guardian ad litem sections, as well as the Regional Academy of Child Advocates.
