David M. Cohen PARTNER

David Cohen’s areas of concentration include civil litigation, particularly employment law, personal injury, commercial disputes, and civil rights. He is a graduate of Harvard College (A.B., magna cum laude, 1970), where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and Yale Law School (J.D. 1973). Before joining the firm in 1975, David served as law clerk to the Honorable Caleb M. Wright of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

He has served as a Trial Referee for the Connecticut Superior Court and as a Special Master in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. He is a member of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association. David has participated on the boards of the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut and Jewish Family Service of Stamford. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Building One Community, the organization responsible for integrating immigrants into the life of the Stamford community.  He is past president of Temple Sinai and served on its Board of Trustees. He serves as Vice Chairman for Presidents in the Southern New England region for the Union for Reform Judaism. David’s numerous civic and humanitarian activities include efforts to resettle refugees from the former Soviet Union. Together with Dan Young, David serves as a trustee of the Claire Helsing Foundation, which provides funding to nonprofit organizations in the region, particularly in the areas of food security, educational opportunity for youth, immigrant integration, and justice reform. David has also served as cooperating counsel in civil rights cases on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Connecticut Bar Foundation named him a James W. Cooper Fellow.

David has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America every year since 1991 and has been listed every year since 2007 in Connecticut Super Lawyers in the fields of Employment & Labor and General Litigation. David has recently been recognized by  The Best Lawyers in America  as “Lawyer of the Year” as a result of receiving the highest overall peer rating for the category of “employment law – labor” in the Stamford region.
